Air Quality and Sustainability Manager

The Air Quality Manager will be working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment that will include detail-oriented independent work and client interactions.

Job Duties:

  • Conceptualizing and delivering innovative, effective, solutions to client problems in air quality and sustainability.  This includes: 
    • Managing projects and client relationships
    • Managing deliverables and work products of less experienced staff
    • Preparing reports and communicating results to clients
  • Managing and overseeing the technical work required to deliver client solutions.  This includes:
    • Site visits to industrial facilities
    • Estimating emissions and conducting engineering evaluations of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions sources
    • Conducting computer modeling of air pollution dispersion
    • Conducting computer modeling of air and greenhouse gas emissions
    • Performing statistical and geospatial analysis of air quality data
    • Analyzing pollution control measures
    • Conducting air monitoring and indoor air quality analyses
    • Preparing air quality permit applications, air emission inventories, modeling and regulatory negotiations
    • Using advanced statistical methods, including machine learning, to analyze large data sets
    • Critically reviewing and interpreting local, state, and federal environmental regulations
    • Regulatory applicability determinations and interaction with environmental agencies
    • Keeping up to date with regulatory and scientific advances
  • Mentoring, developing and encouraging our skilled and extraordinary staff.  This includes:
    • Unlocking staff potential by working with our staff to bring out their best traits
    • Developing staff client interaction skills and enhance effective problem-solving
    • Incorporating great staff ideas into ongoing operations
    • Hiring remarkable junior technical staff to join our team

Required Skills:

  • M.S. (plus 4 or more years of relevant experience) or PhD (plus 2 or more years of relevant experience) in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering
  • Excellent staff mentoring and teamwork skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with state air permitting in California
  • Proficiency in Greenhouse Gas assessment, tracking and minimization
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Solid spreadsheet and data management skills
  • Demonstrated capabilities in understanding and applying environmental regulations to real-world situations
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills

Helpful Additional Qualifications:

  • Coursework in data analytics or machine learning
  • Experience with permitting, modeling and regulatory negotiations
  • Knowledge and experience in human health risk assessment
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
